Understand why your dog does the things that he or she does and eliminate undesirable behaviors and increase desired behaviors.
My training is based on Positive Reinforcement - rewarding good or desired behavior  and not rewarding or acknowledging bad behavior. When using positive reinforcement dog training you can use treats, toys, physical affection, verbal praise or a combination of any of those, to reward your dog for correct behavior. I also use some of Cesar Millian's (The Dog Whisperer) techniques and practices when dealing with behavioral or pack issues.

My name is Terry Popish and I have lived in the Portola area for over 40 years. I have owned and trained dogs my whole life. I started training dogs for competition in 1990 and have been training and showing ever since.  I have 20 years of training and showing experience with a variety of different dog breeds.  My current dogs are 2 rescued Saint Bernards adopted from The Saint Bernard Rescue Foundation.

I have extensive experience with rescued dogs-I am the Founder and Developer of High Sierra Animal Rescue located in near Portola, Ca. A Non-Profit No-kill Animal Shelter (the first one in Northern California).

I started a Pet Therapy Program in Portota during the 1990'S and became a Certified Delta Society Evaluator and Trainer.  I had 2 Certified Delta Society Therapy Dogs that worked at local hospitals for 8 years.

I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen, CGCA and S.T.A.R. Puppy evaluator. I have been testing dogs for their CGC for the past 10 years. I am also a Animal Care Specialist and certified by The American Red Cross in Dog First Aid.
I am also registered wth the American Kennel Club as an Mentor for their New Exhibitor Mentoring Program.

I have been an instructor of Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced Obedience (Open & Utility Levels),  Rally (all levels) and agility for Truckee Meadows Dog Training Club for the past 5 years. I am currently teaching classes in Graduate Novice/Open and Graduate Open/Utility.  I have given public seminars in Tracking and Carting and act as Judge in Obedience and Rally classes for practice trials and AKC OB Matches.
Currently I compete with my 2 Saint Bernards in AKC & ASCA Obedience, AKC Rally, AKC, NADAC, ASCA, & CPE Agility, Carting (SBCA Draft Dog) & AKC Tracking.
